Tamara Hoffmann Shipp, M.A., B.A.
I’m passionate about writing and words and ideas. I am by nature a critical thinker, a voracious reader, and I’ve always had a need to create.
I was the kid in fifth grade who secretly cheered when the teacher assigned us to write an essay. “Secretly” because everyone else was openly groaning at the thought, and in fifth grade, it doesn’t pay to be different. I wrote my first novel when I was 10. In high school, I typed out page after page of a teenage angst story with which I entertained my friends.
Eventually I realized my true calling was not to write the next great American novel but was really connected to my fascination with language and how words come together to convey meaning. I play with words the way an artist plays with colors. I love to experiment with the different ways words can express a feeling, a situation, or a sense of place.
My love of language led me to seek a degree in English, one of those degrees you know will not make you rich. Undaunted, however, I earned a Master’s degree, studying professional writing, rhetoric, composition, and marketing. Since 1989, I have run a business devoted to words — the arrangement of sentences, the nuances of language, the crafting of syntax.
Please follow my blog. The official CoastWriter Consulting blog focuses on topics of interest to small business owners, entrepreneurs, and professionals in a variety of fields. I invite you to also visit my personal blog at CoastWriter By The Sea for posts with a social focus. Or cats. Six of my business partners are of the furry variety and keep life interesting, so I occasionally devote a piece to them.
